Found 1946 Nickel In Yard With D In Strange Location - Please Help

Please see photo, found this nickel in the yard today. I rinsed it with water only. I also went online to identify the markings and have not found another coin like it. There is a letter D after, In God We Trust. Please see photo and tell me if I'm mistaken.

Anyone with suggestions please feel free to share. I'm very interested to know about this coin.

The so called 'D' is probably damage that made it look like a 'D'. (the mint mark for this year was on the reverse)
