I don't think that it's a die crack .. it looks like the "micro D" 1881 and not really linear just like the '81. I just looked through the "handy" 1901's that I have on my coin desk (77 of them) and found 2 that had what looked like small rust pits where hounddog's "D/C is. I think that someone on the mint floor etched/punched that line to stop and possible future cracks from forming, just like I've always thought that most of the 'mico-D" was also manually done .. to stop a crack from spreading. In any metal subject to stresses, cracks can form at any sharp or quick-direction change design or embossing. Stresses accumulate there. That's why most D/C you see on the Vickies start at the denticles or the tops of I's R's, N's, E's or anything else with a top serif in the lettering. I can olok in some boxes and probably find 50-60 more, but others should look and see if you can find a few, like mine, with the little rust-spot dots to the left of the 1. I can definitely feel them with a hawthorn coming out at 90 degrees from the 1..
