When you see doubling on the date and mintmark on a coin prior to 1989 it's a pretty good sign it's Strike Doubling. The mintmarks were added to the the dies separately. I think the die die had a little extra movement at the strike.

Your welcome. You do understand that to be a Doubled Die coin, the die that strikes it must be doubled first. Strike Doubling occurs at the time of the strike usually from a non-doubled die that either has wear or jumps. Since the pre 1989 dies had the mintmark added after the die was made, if the die was doubled the mintmark would not be.

I do...I'm learning as I go, what threw me off was the thickness of the numbers compared to the others in the 3 rolls that I bought..and the fact that out of them all, there were some pretty messy md's, and I found another identical coin in one of the other rolls. So I had to question whether or not there was a minor DDO out there that I may not have known about. I thank you all for your info, and it is very much appreciated. I will get it sooner or later lol.

You would know for sure if the have the big DDO for that year. Even far away you can see the hub doubling on the coin.
