Just bought 13kg of coins unseen with some silver and came across a Canada 1929 silver one cent? Stupid question but is that normal?

Not normal.
The hole indicates it has been plated and made into some form of jewellery.

It may be a mercury coated coin. My suggestion is to dispose of it.

Agree with Nickelsguy. The result of some science lab fun with mercury . A piece of junk . Get rid of it.

if it is coated with mercury, which as I recall, comes with a serious health risk to handle - can the mercury coating not be safely removed?
I mean it's a 1929 penny... some kid out there would enjoy it.

Low "9" 1929 cents are by no means scarce. Aside from mercury contamination, a hole has been drilled in it. An undamaged one can be bought on ebay for $2.00 including shipping, probably less from a coin shop. I agree with others, best to dispose of it.

Even if it can be removed I would feel uncomfortable giving to kid. Any residual mercury can be harmful as well.
