I just started the Capped Bust quarter (Reduced Diameter) set also including die varieties. I picked up about 8 (out of 36) rather quickly but things have slowed down. I keep running into the same common ones.

Kanga...I know what you mean. It seems that on ebay you always see the same overpriced CBQ's. They never sell. If you see a newly listed CBQ at a decent price it will not last long on ebay. I've actually got two graded date sets of the reduced diameters ranging from VG-VF. I would love to see a completed set with all the different varieties.

That's quite an amazing collection of the early Large Size quarters.
Those coins are difficult to find in almost any grade, much less decent-looking low to mid grade examples that aren't priced at highway robbery levels.

I must applaud this lowball. There is an entire niche of this hobby drooling over this "holy grail"!

Quote: Those coins are difficult to find in almost any grade, much less decent-looking low to mid grade examples that aren't priced at highway robbery levels. Very true. Unlike the capped bust halves which tended to get saved, these bad boys saw a lot of circulation. This is really an impressive set of coins.

Thanks for the comments...I'm still looking for just the right 1815. Can't seem to find it but I am sure it will show up one day.

Very nice set you have put together, love it. All have a nice, original look. I too found the 1815 a tough date to find in a grade/price level that was just right, and even then I feel I overpaid. They are just in high demand I guess. The 1824 is another tough one. Have yet to find a nice 1819 and 1820. I like the larger diameter CBQs most. They have a more 'rustic' , less uniform look which I like.

Nice collection of early quarters.
Large diameter quarters are one of my favorite series. Long ago I collected a fair number of them, but none of the expensive dates (1796, 1804, 1823, 1824, or 1827).
