Hi everyone - I have no idea what this is worth but I was given this as change today and the gold color caught my eye.

If anyone can give me some insight as to its history or the value I would appreciate it.

Unfortunately, you just have a normal dime that was minted for circulation and subsequently gold-plated at some point in its life. Proof coins are specially minted for collectors, they have a polished, mirror-like finish and a cameo appearance. Proof coins minted since 1968 are struck at the San Francisco Mint and have an S mintmark, but the mintmark was left off of one die for the 1975 proof issues and it became one of the rarest modern coins in existence.

You know about 9 years ago I came into possession of an extensive coin collection, that initially got me into the world of numismatics. I opened a 1975 Proof set that in fact had what I believe to be your dime Sir. I still own the penny & it is partially gold with a sorta rainbow gradient to the copper playing. It is easily assumed to be "another hoax" a bit too quickly if I do say. I think you have a big pay day. Hope you still have!
