Generally they contain some percentage of silver. Unless, of course they don't happen to.

There are a few chemical tests you can do but most might devalue the coin.

Posts some pics if you can and we'll first tell you if the coin is silver...and if there were ever any counterfeits of that particular coin

Hmm...there may be an easier way to go about this: research the particular coin for silver content. Assaying an actual coin is more difficult than even spotting a fake coin.
