Today I was helping my grandmother clean out her house as she moves into an assisted living place. In a box that belonged to my grandfather were a number of old coins. Along with the coins was this coin, that as you can see, had been made into a necklace. From the research I've done online today it appears to be an Noe 1 Pine Tree. So the big question is of course....is it real or fake? I know the real deal is extremely rare. I thought I would post it here for an opinion before taking it to be looked at by someone. Only "test" I've done is that it is not magnetic.

Real or fake, I think it would be better off with the chain suspension removed,
unless
you wish to keep it as a family heirloom.

Noe 1 is not really extremely rare, it is one of the more commonly encountered Pine Tree shillings, unfortunately it is also the most commonly copied. Not the usual souvenir type copy, does have a cast look though. Can you post a picture of the edge?

Edge appears to be too flat and square. The planchets were cut from beaten sheets with shears. I would expect the to show bevels.

I'm thinking that this is a cast copy, dating to the 1960's. If so, it's likely not silver. A local jeweler could test it. Conder101 is right about the edge which looks to be machine-made.

Unfortunately it is a copy, beyond question. A genuine coin is very thin.

Unfortunately the edge suggests to me that it is a copy, not the genuine article.
Thanks for the pictures.

Thanks to all for your input and analysis. While not the outcome I was hoping for, it is what I was expecting. Happy hunting to you all!
