"640,000 of these tungsten blanks received their gold plating and WERE shipped to Ft. Knox and remain there to this day."
Is there any corroborating evidence for this story?

Thank you. I just like to hear what others think. I know that anything can be found on the internet, but if 99% of the coin collectors say it is not to be believed, I'll react differently than if 99% say it is true.
Coin collectors aren't as easily fooled as the general public.

We know counterfeit gold happens at the one ounce coin and bar levels so why couldn't something bigger be pulled off by some nefarious countries? We know North Korea was printing high quality hundred dollar bills and passing them like hot cakes. Desperate countries do desperate things to maintain control.

In this day and age, absolutely nothing would surprise me. "Too big to fail" can have different meanings to different people.
