I won this in the Agora Auctions/Holding history auction held April 21. The coin finally arrived today. This is my second Claudius denarius. I quite like this one. Yes it has issues but the portraits are very nice imho. Claudius, with Nero as Caesar. 41-54 AD. AR Denarius. Struck 50-54 AD. Obv: TI CLAVD CAESAR AVG GERM P M TRIB POT P P Laureate head of Claudius right Rev: NERO CLAVD CAES DRVSVS GERM PRINC IVVENT Draped bust of Nero Left RIC I 83 (R2) ; RSC 5. Ex: CNG e-auctions 356, Lot: 469. Closing Jul 29, 2015 Ex: Holding History Coins Agora Auctions Lot 07-158 April 21, 2016

Good pick-up, Orfew...congrats on the win. I see why you like the portraits. Always nice to own an ex-CNG and to know a coin has passed muster with their staff.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes Bob, the CNG provenance is good to have. It was not mentioned in the auction but a search of the CNG archives revealed the provenance before I bid on the coin.

Claudius denarii are rare. A double portrait with Nero, amazing! Nice pick up.

Thanks @GERMANICVS Yes, this is my second Claudius denarius. I was very attracted to the portraits and really liked the idea of 2 emperors on one coin(of course Nero was only Caesar at the time). I also do not have any pre-reform denarii of Nero so it was nice to get the younger portrait. Since completing my 12 Caesars I have had lots of fun selectively upgrading the coins in the set.

Thanks @captainyesterday555
It was a lot of fun completing the set. I learned much about ancient coins in the process.
