These Mexican large centavos have always puzzled me. The devices can be almost fully detailed while the perimeter is mush. On this coin, the leaves at 11 o'clock are distinct while the rim dots two millimeters away are absent. Examples of these with good central details are not hard to find, but coins with fully detailed rims all around might be scarce in the strict sense.
Is this just a question of worn dies, or was there something unusual about the manufacture of these coins?
