Hello!

This is my first time joining a forum, and I'm new to coin collecting. My mom coin collected when she was a child, then again later in life, both times she had her coins taken from her. Now that she is in home hospice care, I thought I would reintroduce her to her hobby. I won an auction, purchasing a bundle (130) of US dimes, quarters, half dollars, all between 1920 to 1964. My mom loves them. she requested a few rolls of coins from the bank, and immediately found a 2015 weak struck dime. I'm learning something new every day! I started treasure hunting in my own containers of loose change and found (still finding) interesting wheat pennies and collectibles. I'm hooked!

That's a great idea, as it doesn't take a lot of space and can be worked on as time permits.

from another New Yorker..

Sad that someone would take your Mother's coins when she was young..

My mom had passed in 1984, and I was unaware she had a "trick bank" as a child until her Brother (my last living Uncle) had passed in 2010..

My (late) Aunt had gave me my mother's bank after he passed, and was advised my mom had scratched in the date 6-21-35 on the back..

My mom would have been 9 1/2 years old at that time, and while the bank was empty when I received it, I filled it about a third full of coins from the late 1800's to 1945 (coins found in circulation from her time period)..

While I know the coins were never my mom's, her great-grandchildren will never know, but they do know it was her bank..

Enjoy the forum.
