It looks like a 1858 over 1558 in about f12 grade would be worth about 2000$
a rare coin if the first 8 is over a 5, which is what I'm seeing
Also I see a die crack at the leaf to rim at 9oclock , but can't make out the other 2 that are supposed to be there.
It has the right double A in Canada and D in dei
Looks right to me.
Great find, would be like finding a mint state 1948 dollar value wise

I rinsed it off in distilled water before I dropped it off at ICCS. I USED to clean them off with baking soda and water mix...I think you guys call it whizzing? You can still see some of the dirt in the numbers...

I think you need to ask ICCS to note the variety or they will not

Oh yeah they did note the variety on it, I was just hoping to get a general idea if the grade they gave me matches up with what real experienced coin guys think....I have been browsing the other posts titled " you vs ICCS" and you guys seem to nail it each time...

Well I think a vg 10 to f12 should be about right, maybe someone else could chime in on grade.
Again, congrats on your find, did you know the variety?
All I ever find metal detecting is dirt :(

I didn't know at first..a friend on FB said it looked like it could be so I took it to a dealer in Toronto and he was pretty certain it was but he hadn't ever had one in his hand before..he advised me to take the 2 coins I found in for grading.

What grade did you think? Part of me wants to say f15 detail wise but because of the light cleaning and couple of spots it would put me at around 10-12
What did you think?

I had no idea..dealer said it could be F12 to VF20. He said if it was his he would advertise it as a VF20. This is what I ended up with as far as the 10 cent goes. You guys are pretty good I must say. I am going to ask a bunch of questions over the next few months...

This was another coin that I found in the same field as the 10 cent just a couple weeks prior. It also received the same grade F12 but also got a CORRODED comment.

The 1880 is a nice 12 detail wise but see why they gave it that because of the surfaces. Still a scarce coin, around 150$ retail imo

As far as the 10 cent goes, what is a realistic price one could hope for vs what is indicated in a coin book? Are there many variables with a coin like this or is it a must have for a collector even in a F grade?

It would be likely 1500$ - 2500, tough to say, but I think in that neighbourhood is right, it a scarce coin, very desirable to some indeed, not my self but I see people on here that collect them with enthusiasm
