I am going to say something here that will absolutely SHOCK everyone who knows me and my passionate hatred for slabs SO BRACE YOURSELF! I have inquired into the coin registry program concerning my 3 and one half years of acquiring Euro silver commemoratives and circulating $2 commemoratives. While it would be nearly impossible to acquire them all (France does appx. 90 a year) I have still obtained an unbelieveable set since 2002 and have exceeded my wildest expectations concerning the Euro. And the fact that most were obtained by direct contact with European collectors and trading for most is, in my humble opinion, really something for me to take great pride in. I had finally reached the desire to be the FIRST Euro registry in the U.S.! Yes, I was going to burn up some hard earned cash for slabs!!! Join the revolution! But alas, it can not or will not happen as our registry giants CAN'T DO IT and it will be quite some time before they can? It supposedly has something to do with their numbering system and they are behind? Sorry, I don't understand this explanation. Seems to me if Joe Collector has 60 silver euros and Joe "just getting started" Numismatic only has 30, well Joe Collector has the best set in the U.S. at this time. To be blunt about the whole situation I would much rather slab 50 or 60 coins NOW than wait another 5 years for them to catch up with their numbering system and now look at 150 coins at one time? After all these years of fighting the almighty slab and I finally "cave" in and what do I get---turned down? This one has me puzzled beyond belief!

The registry set program as a whole is a whole breed unto itself. Not a lot of it makes sense to most people. While the majority of my customers end up in this competition, I do not recommend it to anyone. If you really want to show off your collection, show it off here. Not only will we all appreciate it, but it will save you lots of money.

Terry, I would sure like to see those Euros you have collected, but not from behind a slab of plastic. They deserve a better fait than that. Have you thought of placing them in a large vaccum-framed glass desk top. What a spectacular exibition that would be.

I am going to explore all my options! Received another 2 silver commemoratives and 2 new $2 circulating commemoratives just today! Hopefully someday I will be able to share what I have with those who would take the time to look! Thanks Old Dan and ND for the advice.

You feeling alright there, Terry? Seriously though- if you can post some pictures of your Euros, you know I'd love to see them! After all, I think you're the one to blame for dragging me kicking and screaming to the Dark Side with those Euros! Rachel [:p]

Terry, Maybe you should take their reaction as a sign. With the past problems you've had with the TPG's, do you really think you could enjoy your collection if you were collecting them in a way that would entail you dealing with the grading companies all of the time? Just a thought, but there is nothing stopping you from putting a really nice display together and possibly showing it off at coin shows, club meetings, or educational events. You may find that much more rewarding than a registry set. JMHO

Oh how I wish I had a new computer so I could down load some photos for you. I received an outstanding 10,000 peso proof today from Chile that is absolutely beautiful and will put that on my "must post" when I get my computer problems straightened out. The coin is a 1991 silver commemorative to Christopher Columbus with the dates 1492 to 1992. I believe they called it the Libro-American series. I was just STUNNED when I laid eyes on this beauty. I also received a 2000 peso coin commemorating 250 years of the Anniversary of the Mint (Chile) which is pretty awesome. Going to the "DARKSIDE" has been a fantastic trip! (SUSAN I had to trade (send) a used World Coin Catalog to get these). Trading is REALLY more fun than I ever expected and many times items traded are readily available and very painless to my wallet! AND I do make every effort to be absolutely FAIR VALUE WISE with all my collector friends AT ALL TIMES! I am just amazed at what they are willing to offer in return sometimes!)

That's one of the interesting things about coin collecting. There are a lot of different price guides out there, but it all comes down to what a specific coin is worth to each individual collector. I have "overpaid" on a number of coins. These days I'm looking at probably starting to overpay on Bust Halves because I want to attribute them. A couple months ago, it was large cents for the same reason. But if you take into account the enjoyment and education that you can get out of each coin, it doesn't seem like overpaying anymore. It's all in the perspective of the collector.

Terry,
You must have the patience of a rock to put together a set of Euro's like that. I am sure that a whole bunch of people woul LOVE to see them. In the way of a suggestion why not enter them as an exhibit in some of your local area coin shows. Or put together a 20 minute presentation and offer it to some of the service clubs or schools in the area.?

Catman I have been thinking along that line for quite some time now. Have tried to get my bank to put in a display case and they could offer their customers, as well as any new potential customers that come in to see the displays, an opportunity to see something that is NOT readily available to anyone here at this time. They don't seem to understand what I am saying as they keep telling me they tried to sell new mint products at one time but with the highly inflated prices (they didn't actually say that) they didn't sell real well! I told them I DID NOT WANT TO SELL my euros, just display them or U.S. classics for the folks to see. Don't think I am getting any where with this proposal but still working on it. I mean where else in the midwest can one go to much of anything without venturing to a big city and then PAYING to see? NOW KYRA and NDGOFLO we need to straighten a few untruths out here and now! WHO got WHO hooked on Euros? Now I can live with the fact I get extras occassionally and YOU folks jumped on the opportunity to purchase them at European cross-the-counter, face value prices BUT I only offered them to friends as a way to introduce you to new cultures, new history, new designs, and of course, cheap silver! Now you can say I was baiting you if it eases your minds but you really can't blame me for the power of the darkside. The FORCE is strong isn't it? Now as long as you don't start referring to me as DARTH VADER I will probably continue to send those little packages out when I have extras and I MUST ASSUME YOU BOTH ARE STILL ON THAT LIST? (Don't let these two fool you forum members as they KNEW a GOOD thing when they saw it. Actually some of these euros have increased considerably in value by the time I receive them but being the great guy I am....I find good homes for adoption! Yeah, thats it! I have started a COIN ADOPTION SERVICE and didn't even know it! I AM DOING IT FOR ALL THE LITTLE COINS FROM ALL OVER EUROPE and THEY need homes to don't they?)

Nothing like HONEST, straight forward collectors willing to open their homes and hearts to the homeless little coins of the world. NDGOFLO and KYRA are outstanding examples of such people!!!
Now SUSAN, I just returned from my local coin shop and someone has just abandoned a 99 1/10 ounce of platinum there! YES, I have adopted this one as well and I AM still BLAMING YOU for getting this started!!!

Okay, if I must accept the blame for adding 1/10 oz platinum to your collection, I guess I must. I feel really bad about it, though. Just this once, I'll offer to take it off your hands and give it a good home. I'll even pay for its trip here. But this is the only time I can make this sacrifice.....
