Hello Members,

I was wondering if anyone can identify this unknown coin for me?
It looks late roman probably ostrogoth type.

One side head to the right. Reverse I can't figure out the sign? with lyrics NACCA? NAIIA? HACCA?

Definitely not imperial--the letters are too large and too garbled. Might be ostrogothic, or any other Germanic tribe, or even a less descript "barbarous".

The reverse says MACCA ?

I'm starting to think this might be a coin from Massalia, Gaul. I think the two smaller letters might be crude, tight sigmas. If rendered well they'd look like:

Perhaps the Massalia small AE's with eagle reverses, with Massa (in Greek) written to the right of the eagle? For comparison (I realize the legends on the examples are hard to see):

I think you might be right! Nice find!
The quality of my piece looks good comparing the ones I found and here above...
If you turn alround the picture like you did you can see an eagle.
How could you determine this?
