Recent pick up, unattributed 1946 double die reverse in a NGC holder. Grade MS-63.

I am going to resubmit with ANACS to get the correct attribution on the slab and I am wondering if it is worth paying a little extra for conservation as the obverse is spotty.

Would it help?

what do the CCF members think? Thanks! RK

Tough question. The answer is, who knows? It's not a valuable coin, and I'm not sure what appealed to you about it, but I think the resubmission and conservation fees, even if all goes well and you got an upgrade, would hardly be justified value-wise.

I'd leave it.

It would be cool to see some close up pics of the doubled die.On the topic of conservation it really depends on what you are going to do with the coin. If it is a coin you really appreciate and it is going in your personal collection and you want to see the coin without the spots, go right ahead. But if you are planning on reselling it I don't recommend conserving it only because you are going to lose money on the coin because you would be paying the fees to conserve it and submit it to ANACS.

That Spotting on the coin may be the result of a previous dipping.
Getting this Conserved/dipped again may just be the last straw and ruin the coin.

@ Coinfrog, I paid $51 plus shipping, bought it as a 1946 ms63 but it is a double die reverse. I collect 1946 DDR's (my avatar) I have quite a few circulated and 2 MS-64's slabbed.

I do not think it will come back any better than MS63, but I figured while it was being re-holdered for the error, another $12 dollars for conservation might give it a more appealing look.

I think the coin will bring $300-350 range. I did sell a MS64 at $575 and a AU-58 for $225, both ANACS slabbed. I would love to keep them all but I move some here and there.

here is one of the MS64s in my collection.

Oh wow! I didn't think they go for that much! But you also have to consider what trout1105 said about how the spots could be from a previous dipping and another dipping could just destroy the eye appeal completely. It is up to you if you want to take that risk.

ANACS will only conserve the coin if they think they can help it... I don't think there is any conservation that could be done to reverse the spotting.

Thanks Coop,

It will go out in the next batch for attribution. I am still waiting on my last lot to come back from ANACS.
