I've always hoarded wheaties and anything old enough I came across, but basically just tossed them in a jar for someday. Well about a year ago my mom gave me a bunch of coins that had been my dads most of which he got from my grandfather. So I decided to get a little more serious.
So my wife gave me a RedBook for christmas last year and I bought some whitmans(I've almost fille a couple but not Quite)and I've been trying to grade using the RedBook.
Anyway I thought I would start testing myself. So here we go.

P.S. expect more to follow.

Pictures are a bit small for grading, especially with toning involved. The picture of the reverse is a little to out of focus for accurate grading. From these pictures I would have to say AU, but I suspect an MS coin is hiding in those pictures !

I'm thinking AU. One would expect better definition above the ear with an MS 1886.

Yea, judging from the obverse, I would have to say AU-55.

Hi Fiddler,
The second set of photos shows what looks like an AU coin to me. I see light rub over the high points (Liberty's cap, cheek, and hair above ear; the eagle's breast and neck, the arrowheads, and leaves of the wreath). Luster seems to be pretty strong and the toning looks original to me. I'd peg the grade at AU-50 to AU-55.
