In all honesty, I think someone got trigger happy with his or her counter stamp (I mean, 8 times '8' would have made some sort of dark sense for people looking for special mystic numbers, but not 9 times '8', though). Such stamping has no added value to me and in fact ruins an otherwise quite nice coin... I do know, however, that some people are actually quite fond of counterstamp coins, though.

Some vintage (made close to the time of issue) counterstamps fetch quite a premium. This is especially so with Canadian colonial tokens "merchant stamps".

This one is amusing and looks vintage but probably would have minimal interest to such collectors.

Yeh, little brother, look what I have!

Wow! Eight Doubles, we can buy some candy now!

Wait, look what else I have.

A hammer and a punch? what are you going to do with them?

Watch.

BANG! CLANG! BANGDITY CLANG!

Big Brother, why did you punch all those eights into the coin?

Count them!

Nine, So?

And the big one makes ten. How much is ten eights?

Eighty?

Thats right, Little Brother. Now we have Eighty Doubles! Think of all the candy we can buy now.

OH Boy! Let's go!

You are so smart, Big Brother.

Well that is what I think happened to it.
