Hi! I have this beautiful 1848 large cent. The Red Book says the 1848 large cent is counterfeit. You know I'm a noobie so I would appreciate any opinions on this coin. Did they not mint 1848s? How would you grade it?

It states that the small date is counterfeit.
Your coin is the normal large date

Agree - this seems normal in every way.

Thanks guys. I looked at the Red Book again and I guess the (c) just alerts people that there are counterfeits out there but the prices listed are for genuine. I had been thinking the price was FOR counterfeit. (Noob trying to learn)

The 1848 small date counterfeit is worth a LOT more than the genuine coins. The Dan Holmes collection had three of them a VG-8, a VG-10, and an AU-53. They brought $3,190 $5,750 and $7,188 respectively.
