Hi there, I've been deciding which coin to keep... I'd like opinions. I have two 1974 D Washington quarters, I only need one to fill my book and I don't want to start another book and don't think this is silver or anything so I just need to know which is better to save.... On one, it's deeper looking (date and edges) but the mint mark looks a bit smaller/and a blob (you can't barely tell it's a D). The other is clearly legible, but it a little more worn but the mint mark is slightly clearer. I was thinking to save the latter as the mint mark could be harder to tell. What's the group opinion?

Save the one in better condition.

I'd keep both. Put the one you like the most into your book and put the other into a 2x2.

Thanks. I guess I am confused (still considered a newbie I guess as I just started collecting a couple months ago) as to how important the mint mark is. Is it more important THAT be clear versus a slight bit of wear? In the case of both coins overall appearance, they are pretty close. I have come across this before.

Unless the mint mark's appearance is due to damage, I tend to keep the ones with nicest overall eye appeal that fit with the rest of the coins best.

Yep !.....keep the one in the best condition in this case. Now that might be different with coins in different denominations or much older Classic ones......but with "that" as a choice, I'd keep the best lookin' one !

Could have swore I replied to this a while back? Did we lose some posts? Anyway, I think what I said before was to keep both! This is not like trying to decide between two examples of a key date. Save it for a later trade or maybe a second album (if you change your mind). You never know! But which one do you put in your album? It is difficult to say without seeing them. I have this problem a lot when I find two examples of a specific coin I want to buy; each with its own pros and cons. It always comes down to my gut feeling!

Yeah, me too. This subject sounds familiar. Regardless, keep both. If you have to start another album for the second set. Put the best coins in set #1 and then the next in set #2. If you find more, start set #3. No problem. People do this all the time. It is probably a little dumb because it becomes addictive. Example is I have well over 100 Albums. 10 are Lincoln sets.
