i think the old coin guides in book form are now obsolete and a thing of the past , any thoughts ple ASE

no I like my paper copy .its still faster to look up a item on my desk then google

I also still buy them. Always very pleasant to browse though them and compare to earlier editions.

They don't necessarily get published every year
The 26th edition of Rennicks came out in December 2015 and the 22nd edition of McDonalds came out in July 2015
So they are both quite recent and there has been nothing to suggest that they will stop printing them.
As has been mentioned they are great to browse through when off line and old editions provide a record of past values that can be looked back on.

Quote: the guide is not relevant anymore unless sheldon grading scale is used Believe it or not a large percentage of Australian collectors have NO idea what the Sheldon Scale is, Let alone be able to apply it to their ANDA graded coins. Also with many Australian dealers calling MS67 coins FDC the Sheldon system would only cause more confusion. For the majority of us that have learnt to apply the Sheldon system when grading the ANDA grades listed in MacDonald's don't present any real problems.

The time is right to introduce the sheldon scale in the guide rennicks did it for one guide in the nineties

I've bought the Mcdonalds guide for the last 6 years but dont need it any more so thats the end for me .They were good as a reference but I can find all information online these days
