Good Morning, This is an update stemming from 2 posts I made 6 years ago. One post was regarding coin scanning/photography https://goccf.com/t/60744The other dealt with labeling 2x2 cardboard coin holders. https://goccf.com/t/76123Now, The pictures below are from scans with no photo editing whatsoever. I noticed that coins come out better when scanned directly on the scanner. Also, "No coin is going to look good magnified 100 timed." With that being said these coins look phenominal in person. I'm going to try using a black background when scanning to see if that does anything to improve color/lighting/etc. Also, I like the way my 2x2 labels turned out, they too look good in person. BTW, I prefer a scanner to a camera because it takes less time and I'm not looking for "professional" looking coin pictures, just something to share on my website. Thoughts? Thanks, Rich Rich M. - Collector since 2008

Quote: BTW, I prefer a scanner to a camera because it takes less time I beg to differ. If your scanner is like any scanner I've ever seen or owned, I can photograph at least 6 coins while you do one. Just my opinion
I think the pictures and the labels could be much better than those look.

I also strongly fall pro-photo anti-scanner.
I got tired of constantly having to open the Canon apps - so I wrote a .bat file (remember those?) - it closes the Canon app(s) if open, shoots the obv photo, waits for we to flip the slab, shoots the rev photo, converts the .cr2 (raw) to .jpg and files the four files in the proper photo.
And all I type is
snap c 2016 003
I can do two, sometimes three / minute.
It's all customized to my needs, naturally, but that's why I did it.

Yes, you can set it that way, Bobby, but you still have to click on "Live View" to open the 2nd window. Then on the folder icon to get to the dialog to set the file name and destination folder. Plus a click on the tab for each of them and a click on the drop down for the naming. The key for me is digiCamControl http://digicamcontrol.com/). It's open source and only requires the free Visual Studio Express (VSE2013 or VSE2015 both work). I do need to dig into the code to figure out how to make it auto-focus. I've already added a /nop parameter (useful for .bat testing) and tweaked a couple of the error messages to return better information. Maybe I'll start a new thread just for dCC...

I just let the camera name them. I name them later when I crop them.

Quote: Use a box with the inside sprayed black instead of putting the lid down. Thanks for the tip here are the results using a shoebox. I'm very happy with the results Moving forward this is how I will get pictures of my coins, I considered going back through everything but that would take a LONG time. Thanks Again, Rich
