Just got back a modern batch of coins from PCGS. Years and years of sifting through 12,000 - 15,000 nickel dollars annually, has resulted in a couple cherry picks, that I think will be very hard to find a better ones. http://www.PCGS.com/cert/33950784Almost every dollar from 1970 (including PL strikes) is weakly struck, and PCGS is hard on weakly struck coins. This one is no exception, however the cartwheel lustre in the fields, and the eye appeal, probably helped the grade. Certainly the best one I have ever found. Highest graded, tied with one other in the same grade with PCGS. Found in a bulk lot of nickel dollars, raw http://www.PCGS.com/cert/33950788 "Discovery follows discovery, each both raising and answering questions, each ending a long search, and each providing the new instruments for a new search." -- J. They're gorgeous coins. I love both the '70s when there's lots of lustre.

Really beautiful, that's a lot of sifting! I wasn't aware that high MS nickel dollars revealed the same sort of cartwheel luster as silver.

The 'Lantern Collection' has been recently busy, buying ICCS graded coins and sending them to PCGS, for a couple of upgrades... but I seriously doubt he'll catch me... Dealers who search and find the best nickel dollars (Roman Tam and Colonial Acres) always contact me first when they find a real gem... http://www.PCGS.com/SetRegistry/com....aspx?c=3063

I was wondering who the Lantern Collection was. They have some gems ... MS69 '86 stands out and their '82 Constitution coin alignment.

I have caught a few PCGS errors. One was a 1982 Constitution specimen single, graded as MS-68 (I sent it back to get it fixed, and placed in a SP-68 holder)...
If I was a betting man, that MS-69 1986 is a PL strike...

That makes sense. Helps their weighted average though.

Super satiny luster on that 1970 Dollar, 1971 Population 1, awesome. Mining for nickel, bucket by bucket.
