This is a 1897 Morgan in Redfield holder graded MS 64 by NGC. There is a crack in the reverse of the holder, shown in the 4th picture. Any thoughts? Opinions? Possibly a valuation? Does the crack affect the value?

I like the toning on the coin, and the crack would not slow me down from buying the coin.

There are a lot of these for sale on the net and a whole bunch of those have cracks in the cases. So no I don't think it would affect value.

Besides that, the toning on coin more than makes up for crack in case.

That's a $300-$500 coin all day and maybe more if two toner collectors get a yen for it...

I'd crack it out and send it to PCGS or NGC I think it would get a boost cause of the gorgeous toning. That is just my opinion. Coin would probably grade a 65

It has already been graded by NGC and if you were to crack it out, you would lose the important Redfield provenance.

I agree ... Do not crack this coin from that holder.

I know Redfield coins have gone up in the past couple years.
I think this one is a very nice example.

I kick myself for not picking up one of these years ago.
