I picked up this 8 reales last week and have been trying to find some info on the counterstamp but have had no luck so far. Thought I'd come here to the experts to see if I can get some help. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks for looking!
This appears to be a wonderful old cast copy that includes an especially egregious error in that the fake jeweler's stamp "JK" was cut backward, messing up the finished product. The jeweler's mark was to give the impression of coin examined and passed by a coin regulator and certified good weight. This was probably intended for the China trade. I think it has good age to it and could not find it in SwamperBob's book on Counterfeit Portrait Eight Reales. Neat Coin!
