G'day, I assume that the medal is awarded by the Canadian government for service to the community, akin to the Order of Australia, Order of New Zealand, Order of the British Empire, etc.
Based on what I know of the Australian system, there are various grades of medal (Member, Officer, Commander, etc). The higher grades are very rare, and infrequently come on to the market, and these fetch high prices. The gallantry awards are highly sought, and these always create a lot of interest. At the other end of the spectrum, the Oder of Australia includes the "National Medal", a long-service medal for the Defence, Police, Fire, & Ambulance Services: plenty of people have one of these, but the going rate seems to be about $400. I imagine the best market for Canadian medals would be in Canada. Peter in Oz
