Found this coin in some of my Dad's stuff. He died years ago, but was in Japan during World War II. I didn't know if this was a coin or what.

Any help would be great!

Thanks in Advance.

Mark

That is more than likely a charm, because it's not a coin. It's beautiful though, and definitely sentimental. Perhaps someone else can come along behind me and tell you a little more about it. :)

This one isn't a coin, rather a charm or amulet. "Right way up" for your pics are: left pic is upside down, the right pic should be rotated right (clockwise) 90 degrees.

I don't know Chinese, but I do know that once they're right way up, the character at the top is called "fu" in Chinese, and means luck or fortune. The same character presumably carries a similar meaning in Japanese and Vietnamese; this piece could have been made in any of those three places.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Wife says it is a token they give for birthdays and the like.
A greeting, 1st pic characters say - "May your life be as long as the south mountain."
2nd pic wording - "May your wealth (not just money, but offspring, grandchildren, career, business, family, etc., not just money) be as big as the ocean."
Nice, huh? Helps having a Chinese speaking wife.

Your dad, did he ever go to China to fight with the Flying Tigers? If he did, I respect him very much, but I rspect him anyway for his participation in the Great War! It is a Chinese coin. Hope this helps. Wife says it could be a Japanese coin, because they too use the Chinese characters. She says it's possible. The characters are the same (sometimes), but the language is so different.

Sorry for the confusion (japanese or Chinese coin). It is a token, and could be either. Probably is Japanese after all. Sorry. I'm just a in-between.
