The grading of the coin has not changed,
just a different and more sympathetic opinion.

Always, an intending buyer should buy the coin, not the slab.

Nevertheless, slabs can help with authenticity of the coin.

The win has a cost: the grading and return shipping fees.

In Australia there is a perception that NGC will grade a coin 1 point higher than PCGS will.
Your results seem to give that perception some credence

That's the thing about re-graded coins- whether they upgrade or downgrade, I always think to myself: which grade was correct? The first or second. . . . or third? The coin did not change. The perception did.

The holders were old. The grading is now per current standards. Selling these, I will get $600 more than in the original holders. Thats not perception. Its cash.

If you are trading coins, it serves the seller to get the highest grade possible.
When posting pictures on ebay, it can be very difficult to pick a pictue any small variation in the opinions of various TPGraders, and the buyer is tempted to rely on the what the seller says, via the highest TPGrading.

I am always most tempted to examine a coin in hand first, and not value a coin on a TPGrade opinion.
I buy most of my more valuable additions to my collection after viewing via public auction where only American modern coins seem to be more commonly slabbed.

The reality is that even if the coin is a very high end MS-64, you will at best do some small percentage above 64 bid when selling. As an MS-65, you will get something relative to MS-65 bid. The difference is large enough that it is really worth it. I have an old XF-45 Bust half that I think would be AU today that I might try at NGC. I also have an old MS-63 SLQ that I think also has a shot at 64. I'll post when they come back. I feel more confident in my grading now that I'm 2 for 2 on the resubmissions.

Good for you.
I just noticed your ebay shows that you are from Michigan- shout out from a fellow Michigander/eBayer.
