1. Unless there are special reasons it's not cost effective to get coins graded that don't catalog for $150-200 at a minimum.
2. Then go to either NGC or PCGS (although ANACS would probably be less expensive).

ANACS is good for sending coins in with questionable authenticity because their opinion is recognized by the numismatic community (They are not a basement slabber) and they have the lowest cost of "the big three". If your coin comes back authentic, you may want to consider sending it off again to either PCGS or NGC. Since ANACS already said the coin in question was real, you won't waste any money sending a fake to PCGS.

I agree with CoinCollector's comment. It's far more convenient to go with ANACS. *** Edited by Staff - Please review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. ***

Really, I respectfully don't agree with CoinCollector's comment in this situation, unless you are seriously in doubt about a coin's authenticity after checking with your LCS and posting it on this forum for evaluation.
Why pay two fees? ANACS charges less for a good reason - you diminish your selling options and value for a coin in an ANACS holder.

It really depends on the coin. A heavily counterfeited key date or series (like Trade dollars) should be sent to ANACS to verify authenticity. If you want to sell it, you should consider resubmitting it to PCGS or NGC. If it is a high grade common coin, you might just want to skip ANACS and go straight to PCGS/NGC.

I'm with coin frog. PCGS or NGC will definitely let you know if it's not genuine. No need to pay two fees.

CC - Must again take issue. I think that most collectors who will spend money for a TPG opinion on a scarce coin have a general sense that they may well sell it at some point down the road. ANACS makes no sense for a coin with any significant potential resale value.

On coins valued under $300 I like using NGC economy grading. With insurance, shipping and grading fees it still is going to cost a little under $30 a coin.

It depends on your intent. If you just want to be sure it is genuine and know what the grade is because you can't grade then ANACS is cheapest and best.
If you want to be sure it is genuine, know what the grade is because you can't grade, and want to sell it for the maximum amount then pay the higher fees and go with PCGS or NGC.
So are you looking for knowledge or cash return?

Anacs is your best choice. They charge less and they are really friendly and easy to deal with. Also we get pretty much the same for ANACS graded coins as we do for NGC or PCGS as far as sell prices. ANACS in the last year or so has been consistent and conservative as far as I am concerned.
