Don't know what to say about the holder. The label numbers check out and plastic holder looks genuine opened but genuine.
The coin looks about MS-63 to me and legit so unless you were hoping to add to a "slabbed" collection you probably did ok.

Where'd you get it? I have heard of PCGS' slab welding equipment failures in the past and this looks like one of those occurrences. Since it's a relatively common date I wouldn't be too worried but you could call PCGS and then email pics to them for their input.

I got this from ebay I believe some time back. I like the MS common Peace dollars for bullion over the ASEs and rounds. I was cataloging the bullion and felt the insert move in that slab which caused me to take a closer look.

It doesn't happen real often but on rare occasions a slab, sometimes a group of slabs, skips the sonic welding stage.

I reckon a "loose" label will keep me from pulling it out and selling it as is. That's the first genuine coin I've seen in an open PCGS holder. Thanks for the input.

I sent a Morgan dollar for ANACS certification and the slab came back with a rubber band around it; otherwise it was completely un-sealed. I sent it back and they fixed the slab and gave me a couple free submissions by way of apology. It happens!

Quote:I sent a Morgan dollar for ANACS certification and the slab came back with a rubber band around it; otherwise it was completely un-sealed. That's really strange. I'll hazard a guess that the ANACS slabs generally arrive at the sonic welder in that state as a matter of business process. It seems that one bypassed a step.

Quote: ...open PCGS holder Assuming you asked them about it, did PCGS offer to fix it free or quote you a price to repair it?

I didn't bother with it. I'm happy with the '26 P as it is. If it was a '34 S I would probably pursue it with PCGS.
