My latest lowball purchase. Usually only collect $1.00 lowball coins but I liked this one and think it would grade PO1. It also looks like it could be a H3 obverse. Corrected typo Edited by JimmyD 06/18/2016 1:39 pm

That's a nice lowball in that the date is readable but nothing else!

Um... Excuse my dumb question, but why do you collect lowball coins? Why would you pay more for worse grade?

It's just sort of a game with lots of fans. Probably will never own the best, so I'll have some fun and look for the worst. You know, reverse chic. I think many such coins (like this one) are quite remarkable. Beats collecting bottle tops.

@YNumismetals Collector, coin collectors are really eccentric, don't forget that. @coinfrog is exactly right, it is a game.
True collectors need to collect something, there always has to be something to search for, whether valuable or close to worthless.
For instance, I have over 2000 large pennies from the UK and other places. value= 10-25 cents each. Will I stop? probably not for a while.

YNumismetalsCollector- It's not a dumb question at all. My reason for collecting "Lowball" coins is more for the thrill of the hunt. I normally collect Lowball Dollars so to find one in the PO1- G6 range is a lot harder than finding one in MS condition. To find one in PO1 condition is the ultimate find. There is a growing market out there for Lowballs and they are a lot cheaper than the high end coins.
Type in "Lowball" in the search forum and you can find many examples.

The fact that these lowballs even survived bank and merchant culling is remarkable to me (this 1892 50 cents is a perfect example).

Sounds like "lowball" is a pretty recent term?

that's a nice lowball. It's good to see a coin with some history on it

Pretty sweet lowball Jimmy. I'd like to start a 50 Cent lowball but it would always be one coin short of completion so I've decided to just finish my Dollar lowballs :P

A lot of character in that one, love it! Just imagine the stories that thing could tell.

I've got a friend that only collects 1921 lowballs, from any country... kind of an "I'll show you" retort to those holding Canadian 1921's of most denominations.

That must be a challenge. I find it hard enough to find Lowballs from any year.
