to CCF. You posted in the wrong section. I alerted the mods to move it. Give it a bit and one of the ancient coin members will chime in. John1

Some sort of fantasy. It's trying to be Egyptian, but the Egyptians only issued coins under the Greek Ptolemaic dynasty from 320-33 BC. Their coins featured primarily Zeus and an eagle, or occasionally other deities.
What puzzles me is that the patina looks good for being a genuine ancient... maybe it's a genuine ancient coin that has been tooled into a fantasy piece?

to the community By all appearance this looks like an ancient coin, but I've not seen anything like this in any ancient series I'm aware of. I tend to agree that it's a fantasy piece that some one went to a lot of trouble to age like and ancient coin. I would like to see a picture of the edge it would confirm if it is a cast piece or not. I am also moving this over to the Ancient Coin section to see if any one might be able to help.

A few more, from CNG: The ones above show a "symbol of Tanit" before Isis; the ones below show a grain-ear in that location.

Bob, you never cease to amaze me. This is a type that I've not seen before. How did you ever find this?

It looked familiar. I think I have Steve (Finn) to thank...a few months back he had a challenging one that had me looking at Melita coins for a match. I probably first spotted these types while looking at coins from there.

If it were fake (I don't think it is either) would that make it a Maltese fal coin?

Oh, Irbguy. I, mean, wow. I was going to use the little laughing emoticon, but after reading "Maltese fal coin," he's unresponsive:
