Thank you for the information about the Polar Bear coin - the quietest selling out ever. I expected to see about 3,900 for sale to the public on or before July 1, 2016...... This particular 150th anniversary series is a compilation of photos from Canada .Geograohic? Just a word of caution to newer collectors, not sure if everyone knows that next year a special anniversary design of all circulation coin is being released. So if you want 2017 keepsakes, there most certainly will be more NCLT 150th options coming along in the new year, including proof sets.

Yes, better to wait and select in 2017 carefully....overproduction of different editions is expected I looked at the $200 Gold Coin - early Circulation designVery nice piece IMO but to enjoy this design, is enough to have old and good 1908-1998 set - cause these "RCM-first" , or to enjoy the big canvas on the Tribute to Nickel 1-st coin (1oz, Proof, gilded) so unless the chase after mintage of 500, no need to spend CAD 2000+ for this great historical design, but jsut to spend CAD50-100

Quote: I looked at the $200 Gold Coin - early Circulation design Very nice piece IMO This is when the RCM should have increased the mintage and dropped the price, I mean many will want this but its just to far out of many collectors price range. They could have have made like 3000 and dropped the price to like 1800 or some such. They would have still made great profit. Oh well.

No advance notice from my rep on these new coins but I see them on the Mint website. The $200 gold coin appears to be sold out already; listed as awaiting stock but at the end of the new release usually means sold out. I also noticed on the product page for the basketball coin that it's the first coloured convex coin. It seems the Mint is correct that it is the first coloured convex/concave coin. I like this statement of the obvious from the product page "As the one side of your coin is convex, the other side is concave." So it's both convex and concave. Who knew?! BTW, the coin does look good IMO - the engraving of the large basketball makes it appear very realistic.

For RCM - this is true, but RAM did it earlier Southern Sky series (3 coins) started in 2012, Northern Sky series - in 2016 - all the coins concave/convex and colourized. It actually seems funny and obvious for us - the concave/convex, but this is exact description of the coin. Cause, to create more weird designs, enough to create one side concave or convex, and the other is flat or flat with UHR

Another example of the RCM playing fast and loose with its coin specs: the new $200 gold is listed as a 2016 issue but does not feature that date on the coin - only the dual date of 1867-2017. Definitely not the traditional way of dating and issuing coins. Nonetheless, the design is simple and classic and should attract traditional collectors.

Once again, I'm frustrated at the Mint for changing the coins - Customarily, the $200 gold coins issued every year are about $1200 and contain a 1/2 ounce of fine gold. This new one however is still FV $200, Cost nearly $2700 but is a full ounce. Should it not have had a different face value - like $400 or $500? It just doesn't seem right that they change them up every issue.
Regarding the availability, my rep indicated that these were sold on 'sight unseen' over the past month, and that he actually has about twice as many sales as what is available. There are going to be some disappointed people out there!

RCM has been issuing f/v $200 gold coins in both 1/2 and 1 oz (appx) weights for a number of years. The first 1 oz was in 2012, The Challenge: Robert Bateman. Both are roughly the same diameter but the 1 oz is twice as thick. This does seems a little confusing. There have been other $200 1 oz that follow the same high end traditional theme as the 1867-2017 newest release, for example: 2015 - A Historic Reign 2014 - 75th anniv of Royal Visit 2014 - Four Royal Generations

I'm starting to wonder if there is going to be a super insane number of Canada's 150th if they're already selling them 6 months in advance.
Perhaps another superman next month too. Haven't seen any of those in almost a month.

I love the $200 gold, it's a beauty. Not too keen on the photograph coin series, even though the photos are lovely, I think I'll probably wait until something more appealing comes out for the 150th
