I've had this penny since I was a kid and have been curious about it for some time. I didn't post because all of the threads about the proof of a 1917 penny being just rumors, but I figured I'd ask anyway. Any thoughts on this one, other than it's in rough shape? Thanks!

to CCF. Looks like a regular 1917 cent in About Good condition. Not sure of your question.

Just trying to figure out if it's anything special or just a regular coin. Edges appear to be flat, but it could be just because it's old. *shrug*

Yes it is just a very worn coin. As you would expect for a 99 year old coin. Stay here long enough and you will learn a lot. If you have any other coins that you have questions about, or if you have any questions at all, post them, everyone here loves to help.

I think the OP means a Proof strike 1917 cent.

It funny how when a collector finds a coin, they assume it is the most valuable one they saw in the Red Book.

Coop - I'm not a collector and I have no idea what the " Red Book" is. I'm simply a person has a sandwich bag of old wheat pennies. I have no knowledge on the subject, which is why I turned to this forum. Aside from the steel penny I have, this 1917 was the oddest looking to me.

The Red Book is a book on coin values. (retail prices) Has some useful information. I buy one about every 10 years to see what coin prices are doing.
