Greetings all,

I found my first doubling coin last weekend when I met someone who recently started collecting.

I was on vacation, but had my magnifier and ran up to my room to get my change. My first coin was my first coin with noticeable doubling on front and back.

I've looked around and didn't really find much, or not looking for the correct information.
Can someone take a look and provide your thoughts?

Thanks,

Shawn

to CCF. You are not finding any info because there is no Info to be found. What you have is a classic example of machine damage. Note how the "doubling" is shelf like and reduces the size of the devices. If you stay here for a while you will learn a lot. keep on searching, I promise you'll get something.

Dustin6 has it correct. Machine damaged after the strike. The bounce/hop after the strike damaged those devices reducing the size of them. The outline you see on the right is where the normal device was formed at the base of the device. The movement damaged the rest part way up on the device. Not hub doubling, just a normal die with MD.

Your coin looks like the image on the left. The other type of useless doubling is on the right image from a wearing die altering the devices. Both are non premium coins.

How was the picture quality? My next task is to research true doubling errors.

Thank you for the info, I will continue with my quest!

Great images. The reverse image had the light a bit too close, making the light appear like a spot light on just one area, instead of spreading across the whole face of the coin. If there was something I needed from you images, they would be great.
