I bought these 24 karat gold plated SBAnthony coins in 1979 from the West Port Mint for my granddaughters-- I recently opened (2 were unopened) the original mailing envelopes and ALL the coins were corroded...:( Just want to confirm they are trash before I thro them out... Thanks in advance for your thoughts...

They may be corroded, but they are still worth a buck.

There's a light discoloration on the cardboard surrounding the coin (looks pink in the photo). Did these somehow get wet?

DON'T throw them out!! As Atlas said, they're still worth a dollar, even corroded.

Yes, but they are $1 coins anyway! These are the kind of coins in which YOU decide whether to keep them or not. Oh, to CCF!

Acetone won't help.
Even if they weren't corroded, they would still only be worth $1 each. They are just regular issue dollar coins that a private company has damaged by gold plating them.

to CCF. Can we get a pic of the entire holder please. Is it West Port Mint or West Point Mint? The coins are damaged and worth only face value. Even if they were not corroded. The coins were plated by a private company and most collectors would consider them damaged at that point. John1
