The Independence Day thread got me thinking, with our national holidays so close together, why not a thread for coins for Canada Day? Post whatever you like, as long as it makes you think Canada! I'll start it off with a bit of silver, old and new Let's see some Canada!

the 1935 Canadian silver dollar had a purity of 80% silver and a weight of 0.60 ounces pure. it was struck to commemorate the 25th year of his reign, which is seen in Latin on the obverse inscription. although the coin was meant as a one year commemorative, it was very popular and became a standard issue. the year following, 1936, saw the same reverse but the equipment originally used for the 1911 dollar obverse was used to give the 1936 issues the standard obverse in use on all Canadian coins since 1912 after the 1939 royal visit dollars were struck, Canada entered the war and the striking of silver dollars was suspended as there were not many personnel at the mint due to the war effort and the striking of dollar pieces was not as necessary as the striking of smaller denomination. in 1945 the coins resumed production with the same specifications and voyageur reverse.
