greetings and the funny shade you see on the 83 is the zinc core the copper has wore away
and the 96 I am going to let others more knowledgeable than me make that call

Coin 1: Zinc layer exposed, no added value as it happened after it left the mint.

Coin 2: There is no such variety called the 1996 open AM

Also this should be in the modern error and variety forum.

The only die used to strike 1996 cents was the Wide AM die

i believe that info is wrong they used a CAM for 96 and I think his coin is CAM because the M is not centered but closer to the A than the E ,better photos would be nice.

They only used one die on that date.

Also these WAM varieties only happen in philly, so there is no way the OP's coin is a variety.

The reason the 1998 WAM is valuable is because it was supposed to be CAM.

Your 1996 looks just like it's supposed to for that year.
