Several billion Ike dollars were minted for circulation during the coin's lifetime. I'm just wondering where all of these coins are currently residing. I know some are in collections, but where else? I can't imagine that too many of them are in circulation.

Quote:Several billion Ike dollars were minted for circulation during the coin's lifetime. Whoa. . . . . slow down there, buddy. If you add up all mintages from every year and mint mark, including silver issues, not even 1 billion were minted. The estimated total I calculated is 703,950,603. Still, that's a LOT of Ikes. Perhaps you meant to say several million? No doubt there are many, many bags located at the Federal Reserve bank. I just wonder how many bags. Hmmmmm . . . tantalizing.

Ooops. yeah, I was doing the addition in my head and got over-zealous with the decimal point. That did sound like a lot of Ikes. Thanks for pointing that out. Sorry 'bout that! No problem. I figured you were just imagining how awesome it would be to be surrounded by "billions and billions" of Ikes.

Somewhere in the CRH forum, I remember someone posted a picture of the FED, where there were *hundreds* of $500 bags on shelves in a warehouse. The fed seems to be dead-set on maintaining a LIFO (Last In, First Out) policy with their reserves of dollars. Banks have repeatedly told me that their order form just has "dollars" so there is no way to request them unless you have a contact all the way through to the person who will physically get the bag to load it to the truck.

Quote: "Billions and billions." -- Carl Sagan He never said it. Quote: To help viewers of Cosmos distinguish between "millions" and "billions", Sagan stressed the "b". Sagan never did, however, say "billions and billions". The public's association of the phrase and Sagan came from a Tonight Show skit. Parodying Sagan's affect, Johnny Carson quipped "billions and billions".[2] The phrase has however, now become a humorous fictitious number—the Sagan. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billi...and_billionsA good book, by the way.

700 million coins / 300 million people = 2 coins per person not much!

Quote: Quote: "Billions and billions." -- Carl Sagan He never said it. You know, I knew that. I remember someone saying that "billions and billions" doesn't make any sense because it doesn't mean anything in terms of defining a quantity, and certainly a scientist would never say it. But I do think he said "billions" many, many times.
