Need-Help-Identifying-1988-Summer-Olympics-Piece

I found this in a foreign coin lot I received yesterday in the mail. I looked it over, and it seems to commemorate the Summer Olympic Games that took place in Seoul, South Korea in 1988. Further inspection proves there is no denomination mark, so I assume it was never meant to be a circulation piece.

The only pictures I was able to find online were of some similar items that appeared to have come from the same series, but they took me to websites where the items were being sold and gave no information on them.

The words are in German, but that still didn't help my search. All I can find regarding any German Olympic commemoratives are items that were intended for circulation.

It's in brilliant condition, so I'm hoping it has some value. I would also like to have some background information pertaining to this particular set, and maybe a link to a website with this information, if possible.

It's not a coin, but a medal. And it's quite a rarity if you ask me, I don't know much about it. But let me help by translating the text and by letting my gut feeling speak.

The text on the first picture reads 'You compete for Germany in the discipline diving'.

The other picture reads '24th Olympic Summer Games in Seoul 17.09 - 20.10 1988'.

To me this seems like an East German piece, given how it's designed. I assume it's given to participants in their discipline.

So now it's just to find out who participated for the DDR or the BRD in 1988 in jumping, then contact them and ask if they're missing a medal or so...

The pictures are blown up a bit, but in reality it's about the size of a U.S. penny, so if it was a 'medal' it would be the world's smallest.

I used East Germany as part of the searching criteria after reading your comment, but still couldn't find anything. I do appreciate the feedback though.

It is not a medal, but a part of a collection of jetons/tokens made in the period of these games
Something similar to this:

Jetons. That's a new word for me. I'm definitely going to use that from now on.

I found this piece and two others like it: one for boxing and one for hockey. This one is for diving.

They were all on websites to be sold, so still no more information on them.

I wish there was a page describing the series. I might want to start collecting the whole set, assuming there's one for each sport of those particular games.

I am very grateful for the help though. I'm new to this site and I hope I can be of help to other people as well.
