I haven't had many coins from Nicaragua, but I really like their idea of what a coin should look like. Both the Portrait on obverse & design on reverse are looking good.

Definitely looks better right side up.

It's interesting that the obverse portrait seems realistic and the reverse seems quite fanciful with the face on the sun.

Nice coin. Doesn't look like it got handled much.

The fanciful sun is a rather common theme in many south and central American coins. I am rather intrigued by it.

I like the design.

What are the specs for this coin?

Prior to Nicaraguan independence in 1838 it was a province in the Federal Republic of Central America, along with Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica and Los Altos (which would become the Mexican State of Chiapas). You will recognize the obverse design of the first 8 reales issued by the Federal Republic of Central America.

That's so interesting -- but I suppose a good design should stand the test of time.

Thanks for posting that.
