I found a 19? Kennedy

It does not look to beat up yet only "IBER" can be seen in Liberty. Only "God We TR" can be seen. The P Mint mark can be seen but only the faint top of a possible 9 in the year.

The back also shows some weakness in the lettering around the outer edge.

Is there an error like this around or do I have a damaged coin? And if it is an error what would be the approx value?

Here are the pictures:

An image might help. I'm not sure what your describing. It could be damage/or anything else. With the year possibly 1999, it should be damaged unless someone vented his anger on it in the garage trying to make something the coin wasn't. It could be grease struck or another anomaly. But an image would help.

Thats a nice example of a half struck through a very heavy layer of grease.

Grease can fill the recesses of a die and that is the result.

Without a closer look, it might also be a coin struck as what is known as an adjustment strike. It could be weakly struck.

The way the surface looks on the reverse, I lean toward the Grease Filled Die scenario.

Thanks,
Bill

Struck Through Grease and quite a bit on both sides too. I would say that it is severe enough to command a premium of some sort but not enough to giggle with glee, probably a few dollars though.

Thanks for your help everyone.

I was thinking it was an "adjustment strike" since both sides show weakness, even though I did not know the proper terminology for it.

The Grease Filled Die Struck through sounds like the consensus though.

I have since found a listing on ebay for a 1999 P that is listed with the grease description. Almost identical to mine, just with date more obvious and no weakness on the back.

A die adjustment strike would show much more weakness in the central device areas of highest relief.
