Still awaiting it's arrival. AE Drachm Elymais (Elam) Orodes II 2nd century AD Bust of Orodes II with crescent moon and anchor. Bust of Belos (Baal), surrounded with Aramaic legend. 15.5 x 14mm x 3.8g van't Haaf 13.3 Bob, if you don't mind, I would like to ask a question on this series again. Are these rulers the same as the Parthian rulers?

Good to see another Elymaean added to your collection, Ron.
The correct citation is van't Haaff 13.2.1-2B.
No, not the same as the Parthian rulers, but believed to be of the same Arsacid family. The Orodes II who ruled Parthia was in power more than 150 years before this Orodes II of Elymais. Parthia's Orodes II ruled from c. 57 - 38 BC, while this guy (Orodes II of Elymais) ruled early to mid-2nd century AD.

Thanks Bob I figured as much. I like to research the different rulers and just wanted to make sure they weren't the same. Wish there was more information on these guys. I have my eye on a few more of these so I guess have have to look into getting a copy of van't Haaf.

Quote: Wish there was more information on these guys. FYI, I may post an introductory article on Numiswiki within the next couple of weeks. It'll just cover some basic information about Elymais and collecting coins from the series, but hopefully you'll find it helpful. I'll announce here when it's uploaded.

Btw, Ron, if - in the meantime - you want to see the chronologies of Elymaean rulers as proposed by van't Haaff (2007) versus de Morgan (1930), see Forum moderator and Elymaean lover Howard Cole's post here: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/nu...20Chronology

Bob I thoroughly enjoyed your article on the coin of Elymias, It has answered some of the questions that I have on this series. One fact I found very interesting is that they are descendant from the Elamites one of the twelve tribes of Israel from the Bible. That would explain the Aramaic legend.
