It is my understanding that each PCGS slab is identified by a certian number. Does anyone know how to trace the number back to PCGS's records and do they keep facts about the slabbed coin on file? Do you need to subscribe to them to find out?

Thanks for you help!

A short while ago I was wondering the same thing. For pcgs YES, and you do not have to sign up for anything! Go to google and type in "pcgs cert number lookup". I tried the same thing for my NGC coins, I had to subscribe for free but I couldn't figure it out.

you can also go straight to PCGS website here http://www.pcgs.com/cert/ and type in the number and check it out, NGC I think you have to be a member of their Collectors Society to look up their certification numbers

If I am not mistaken, for NGC, you do not have to subscribe to NGC if you are an ANA member.

you are mistaken, if you are a ANA member you can submit to NGC but you have no access to their paid site features
