I have a bunch of the 1 oz rounds and a hoard of Canadian pennies.
I wouldn't buy too many of the rounds, but some are cool , just not going to make you rich lol.
There seems to be a small market for the bars, poured bars etc ,but again don't buy thinking they will react the same as silver poured bars as far as collector value is concerned "but" who knows I guess.
I really want one of these though as a conversion piece.
Quote: Even silver will be useless as they will pull their guns and take yours. Ammo and guns are a better investment to keep what you have and your family same. Besides I ask the same question to everybody touting PM's as the currency of the future. Who will be setting the value of the PM's, Plus how will you be dividing it for less than ounce values. PM's were useless when Venezuela had their crash a couple years ago. Ammo and Guns were the gold standard for barter.
Tinfoil hat much? Won't happen here...we own the printing press. But, just in case, I already have the currency of the apacolypse.

I buy $25 boxes of pre-sorted US cents from my dealer for %27.50. It is a lot of work just going back and forth to the bank let alone sorting them. I have a little machine but it too is slow. There is just over 16 lbs. in a box and copper is about $2.12 so I get like $34 worth of copper for $27.50 with only 10% max downside, a whole lot of upside potential and there is no asset more liquid. I think that there is less than 10% copper left in circulation. There are warehouses with huge machines sorting the copper. Even before you could melt the $1000 bags they traded higher than face. Someday you will be able to melt the copper too and they will be worth %95 of their weight. This is a fact. When copper was $5 boxes ($25) were going for about $50 on ebay. I believe right now is the time to buy copper. Everything else turned. To me it's a no-brainer just like %40 halves for $.65 ea. That's if you can get them cheap enough. Oh, thieves are generally pretty lazy I don't see them getting more than $100 before they get tired. Even better, unwrap them an put them in something that can't be moved. I ALWAYS do well by buying when no-one else will. Even coin collectors won't touch them. I wish I could have pulled 90% back in the 60's it's 14x face now. $15 copper is 10x face. Which is not out of the realm of possibilities. Risk=10% MAX or 0% if you sort them. reward= 300% (old high) and up. I buy boxes and can't help but save the copper I get in change. I hope this helps Ed

Ed, I'm curious as to who is sorting that copper, and why. There is a melt ban, and it doesn't seem like there is any market for copper coin in large amounts. Where's the profit?

Well, some folks don't care about bans. There is a mentality among some: "If you didn't see me do it", then it didn't happen. What hoard of copper cents?

Copper is not bullion. Let's get that straight right away. And I wouldn't recommend people buy platinum. Gold is very easy to test and very easy to cut into manageable pieces. Copper marketing is a big joke, so unless you like the LOOK of your shiny-shiny don't even touch it with a 10 footer.

Now let's just take a $1 coin from 1964...
If you take that dollar and hold onto it until now as you said you would get 14 x face so ... waiting 52 years will net you $14 in return...
At the same time had you invested the money, with an average rate of return netting you around 8% interest... The double rule of 72 applies you would have doubled your initial investment just over 5x
$1x2x2x2x2x2 = $32
Silver was a known precious metal at the time... can the same be said for copper?
I'm not saying this is a bad idea.... but I wouldn't put a whole lot of eggs into this basket. I'll be honest I have a rubber maid bin FULL of penny rolls. And while I think there may be some value down the road in copper, I kept the pennies b/c I like to coin roll hunt and they've taken out all the pennies from circulation here in Canada. I also have a project I plan to do with the pennies.
All I'm saying is that I believe there are much better opportunities for building wealth.
Well part of me asking was a co-worker wanted to know if I wanted to buy 200 1 oz copper bars from him for $.75 each. I kindly told him no thank you but did ask if he had any silver which was an 1 oz bar (which I did buy).
Must admit copper will always be a treasured part of collecting for me. I know it is not strictly bullion but the Australian Pennies and half pennies from 1910 to 1964 are great way to collect.
Will always remember in my younger years what a treasure it was to get a penny with King George V face on it.
Copper pennies and half pennies have got to be the best way to collect copper.
