Last weekend I purchased a G-VG 1922D cent from my local coin dealer. He had maybe 10 or so in a 2*2 box of Lincolns. I looked through them all looking for the the one with the weakest mint mark. The one I purchased had a very faint mint mark(a variety worth a premium) for $15. I looked it up in my Red Book, and it turns out this coin is worth $35+. Was my coin overlooked by the dealer? Has anyone had luck finding overlooked(cherrypicked) coins? And can anyone give me tips on rare varieties I have a chance of finding that are worth looking for? -PP

I think you have to have over 50 posts to put up pictures...

You can host pics on imageshack until you have 50 posts.

You do not need 50 posts to post pictures. 50 posts allows you to have your own gallery here if you want it, and expands your file size limitations.
Having said that, Rainman, it's tricky and easy all at the same time. My quick suggestion for getting the most out of your photos at the 100kb size limit:
1. Take the photo with the best camera and setting you have available. Stay about 6-8 inches away with a tripod and timer setting. Use a white paper background on auto settings, and there's a chance that the auto setting will adjust your white balance for you. 2. Download the pic to your PC, open it and save it as a jpeg to your desktop for easy location. 3. Open the photo, even with a double click and the default program on your PC. They usually have an "edit this picture" selection. 4. Edit the photo by first cropping out all extra image except the coin. A square box is fine. 5. Re-size the picture to, say, 600X600 pixels and save as a different name so you still have the original. Check the properties to see if it's under 100kb. If not, take the original down to 550X550 to see if you are under.

You can also upload the picture to http://www.photobucket.com. It will provide you with a direct link to the picture. You can either include that link in your post or click "reply to topic" and click the icon with mountains and a yellow sky. Image tags ( <img></img> )* will appear and you can paste your link in between them and it will appear directly in the post. * The <> icons need to be replaced with [] for the image tags to actually work but the tags wouldn't show up if I left them that way.

Also try hitting the "Uploading Images" that is below the blue bar that says "helpful Posting Links" that is right above the box that comes up when you reply to a thread

Can this thread be renamed? It has nothing to do with overlooked coins....
No offense to anyone, but it took me awhile to figure that out.

Wandering off the subject is common on many posts. For some reason this is a human trait. Explained in Psychology 101 in college. Meanwhile back to the topic. For one thing you may have run into a dealer that is not sure just how much some coins have appreciated lately. Or his buisness is not so great so he is attempting to attract a steady customer. Regardless, any form of the 1922 Plain or weak D is becoming expensive at coin shows. I go to those about 2 to 3 times a month. Even the weak D has some details you may want to check on such as the weak reverse or strong reverse. There are tell tail signs of a coin being tampered with to make it appear as a no or weak D cent. For more detailed information on Lincoln Cents you may want to check out https://www.coppercoins.com The individual from that web site has two books out on just Lincoln Cents and explains numerous types and varieties on his web site. If you go to Google and type in Lincoln Cents you will find many, many web sites such as The Lincoln Cent Resource web site where so many others are jumping on the coin boom band wagon and just copying others information. As to other coins of interest, buy the Red Book by Whitman Publishing available at most coin stores, coin shows, hobby stores or even the Walmart Web site.
