I've even seen, very recently & more than once, where, at flea markets, they had a little sign with their coins that said "Prices Firm"....nothing else with that in all their other inventory, JUST the coins....lol I just keep walking shaking my head.... But, I bet ya, they have PLENTY of people who are non-experienced coin collectors, that WILL pay those prices in a heartbeat. ...no doubt. Like...."Hey mom look C.O.I.N.S. !" --- "Can I buy these, puuuhleeeeze, !"....

I usually find negotiating pointless if the price I'd like to pay is more than 30% lower than the initial asking price. Quite simply some vest pocket dealers or collectors renting a booth may not have a clue about current market prices. Several antique malls is my area have brisk sales on overpriced coins so that type of pricing may work with the non-collecting public that just wants to buy a cheap trinket to remember a day at the flea market.

Quote: I did show one guy the conflation app and try to negotiate but he wasn't budging.
Why should he budge when there are probably some foolish people that WILL buy them at his inflated prices?

Sometimes you can find decent lots of junk silver halves online...it requires patience and the right timing. Or coin roll hunt boxes of halves and pray you get some silver; it is still out there. Last week I found 4 90% halves in one box 1 walker, 1 kennedy, and 2 franklins.

I watched several folks bid $40 on an ordinary Canadian dollar because it was silver. Not only silver, but an ounce of it, per the auctioneer.
Not just one, but several such coins.
Nothing you can do about it, it's their money and their choice, and one born every minute, and two to take them.

I'm going coin roll hopping real soon. I haven't tried the halves yet. I do wonder if most people still keep up with the price of silver? I'm determined not to over pay anymore.

It's fun to look at the coins at garage sales and flea markets. And prices are way too high. Having typed that there is an exception to every rule. People who do house clean outs come out on the opening day of a flea market in Connecticut. I look for books, odd knick knacks, bottle openers, souvenirs, etc,... This one fellow had a box of coins among his other items, ten cents a piece. I get there early so I was probably the fifth or sixth person to look over his stash. He laughed and said he took out all the silver already. I bought ten dollars worth. Old Canadian coppers, coins from Palestine, German coins from the war! But he was right, there wasn't any silver!
