I cant figure out what is going on with this Kennedy half I found please help!! This is actual color of the coin it has like a bronze/gold look to it. Thank you in advance.

I think you have a coin that has been electroplated with a minute amount of gold. These were sold on TV to "collectors and investors" and are worth no more than face value. They end up in circulation from time to time.

If it is gold-plated you should know that the amount is so small that recovering the gold would cost more than the value of the gold.

You'll see the same thing with quarters, too.

I would imagine that this was one of 2 things, either an experiment in plating (gold) or someone decided to paint it. What is the weight of the coin? if it was plated there would be a significant overweight to the coin, if painted then you might not notice a difference.

you could always do a scratch test to see what is under the coating.

no. there would be in almost undetectable change in weight. when someone gold plates a coin it is in the micro grams range. if painted the change in weight is likely to be more than if plated. yet still undetectable with most home based balances
