It's hard for me to understand the intricacies of the die variations associated with the shield cents, but I wanted to get a 2nd opinion on the LIBERTY of this 2012 cent. The T looks thick to me but it might just be worn down. anyone see anything special here? Edited by truman1404 07/12/2016 11:48 am

Try a side by side of the Liberty in question with a regular 2012, that should tell us what you have.

Definetely some extra thickness on ERTY. Just not sure if it is strong enough to be listed, let's wait for coop for that one. If you are having trouble with side by sides, try the app piccollage.

Looks like there is a slight amount on enlarging on your coin. But is it enough to be listed? Probably not, unless there is a big die marker that is noticeable. The coin has some contact on that are of LIBERTY. So how much does that figure in? The SBS coin looks like it has some MD on the top edge of LIBERTY. How much does that figure in? So if you could find a second example without the damage, then I would submit it to John Wexler and see what he thinks. But you might find another example in your area. It is so border line, it makes it a touch call. Just not enough hub doubling to say for sure at this point. So find a better example and post another set of images. (save it for now though) The jury may still be out on this one yet.

Yes, it looks thicker but I can't see notches, like what is usually mentioned. They are so hard to see - good luck

I'm just trying to learn what to look for, and even though it's subtle I'm just excited to know that what I thought I saw in this coin, was correct. Just gives me a better feel for what I see. Thanks Guys,
Coop, I figured you had a "extra thickness shield die card" made up, I didn't mean to have you build one from my pics, but it just goes to show what a bad-az you are, at all associated with coins, and pictures.
We need to get you an assistant!! Thanks again.

So truman, are you going to try to submit it to Wexler? Here is his email *** Private information removed by Staff. Please do not post your address/email/phone number etc. *** If you do email him, make sure to tell him what to look for. Good luck!!

We need to find another example to see what the coin looked like when it was struck. It is hard to tell for sure on borderline minor coins when there is contact marks on the critical points. Did you find a strong marker on it? If you did, post it so other searchers will know what to look for as a marker for this die.

I don't get many 2012 P cents here, so I'm finishing up the boxes this one came from to see if there might be another, hopefully in better shape.
