Yup you are correct,just Machine Doubling, if this was the real deal,you'd be able to tell with the naked eye.

MD is the case. Note how the so called doubling is shelf like and reduces the size of the devices. Also on the 69's Doubled die you will not see the mintmark doubled because until 1990 the mintmark was hand punched into the die. That's really the dead giveaway. This image from coop should help.

When you see MD on the date and the same direction/same amount on that area, then know it is machine damaged after the strike. Why? The pre 1990 dies were punched with a mint mark punch. The dies were hubbed without the mint mark added. So the changes of both being in the same direction and the same amount will tell us that it is MD.
